Cold and flu season is in full swing. Stay warm and strong with the best winter drink ever! Ginger, turmeric, lemon and blackberries. Warming, delicious and Om So Healthy!
Turmeric is full of bioactive compounds that contain powerful medicinal properties.
Curcumin , the main active ingredient in turmeric, is a natural anti-Inflammatory compound. It helps the body fight off invaders and plays a role in repairing damage. Turmeric dramatically increases the antioxidant capacity of the body.
Ginger warms the body. It can break down the accumulation of toxins in your organs that can make you susceptible to infections, especially in the respiratory system.
Lemon juice can help lower fever and treat respiratory issues and works as an antioxidant. It is high in Vitamin C, and contains Vitamin B6, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, folate, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, copper, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and phosphorus.
Blackberries are loaded with Vitamin C. They reduce inflammation, fight infection and boost immunity. They are antibacterial and help to fight off disease. And, let's face it - they taste amazing!
Play with the ingredients until it's to your taste. You just can't get it wrong. I used...
3 tbsp grated fresh ginger - peeled
1 piece of fresh turmeric- about the size of my pinky finger - peeled and grated
juice of one large lemon
8 cups of water.
Let simmer for about 20 mins, then added about a cup of frozen blackberries. I had these leftover from my summer stash.
Let simmer a little longer until the blackberries break down. Push through a strainer and serve. Great hot or cold!
